Bromley

The Guthlac family has held title to the manor of Bromley as Barons since the Great Kingdom's writ ran in the Shield Lands (at least 350 years to be sure). The Barons of Bromley were among the first to join the Shield Lands protective alliance and is still a major anchor of stability in the Trimarch. Bromley consists of a fortified manor house, with an old stone curtain wall with timber battlements, and a stockaded village and manor outbuildings nearby. The fief was once much larger, with several dependent villages and knightly manors, but the chaos of the last few centuries has whittled it down to a single manor and village. The population is around 500 people, broken down as follows:

5 knights: Baron Zander Guthlac of Bromley, and 4 others.
20 soldiers: (3 on station at the village, 17 at the manor house)
100 Militia: the adult men of the village, trained to defend the manor and village.
20 strangers, drifters, dirtbags and bums.
4 clergy: Father Hunbert, cleric of St. Cuthbert and 2 acolytes, and Mother Gunnu, priestess of Beorry
1 magician: Sinric, the Wiseman of the Moors, a weird wiseman who lives in a hut outside the village.
350 women, children and old folks.

Sir Wilford of Bromley, the local Knights of the Holy Shielding Captain, is Uncle of Baron Zander.

  • There is a well-known Inn called “The Red Falcon at Bromley” located just outside of the village stockade. Many travelers of various reputations can be found here. It is always looking for Owlbear Livers, to make their famous Owlbear Punch. The Innkeeper is called Red Milton.
  • Sinric the Wiseman is a skilled herbalist and can be counted on to have a stock of herbs and herbal concoctions for sale.
  • Inside the wall of the village is the Bromley bakery, which, in additon to having a monopoly on bread baking in the village also produces Awesome Pies.
  • The Baron does employ an armorer, Gritty Steve, and does occasionally sell surplus weaponry to those he likes.
  • about a quarter mile outside of the village is a prison camp, where Baron Zander is re-educating captured orcs, goblins and the like to perform useful tasks for society. The Baron will pay 10gp per head for live humanoid prisoners.
