Titus Balth, a Kotharian soldier of repute, took his considerable fortune, and the good will of the King, and passed beyond the border and established a freehold, some 40 years ago. After a 25-year reign spent establishing the freehold, Titus died and passed it on to his eldest son Marcus.
Marcus continues to rule the hold as an independent statelet, but has a formal treaty of “Friendship and Alliance” with the Kingdom of Kotharia, whereby he and the Marcher Lord will send troops to aid the other if either is invaded, and either will return wanted fugitives to the other.
There are between 7000 and 10,000 people in the entire freehold, with Lord Marcus maintaining about 300 soldiers fulltime and the ability to muster up to around 2000 militia.
