These Atlantean monstrosities were created for the purposes of creating and maintaining a series of subterranean channels in the new world. While none have ever been seen alive, there are carvings and standing stones that have pictures and descriptions of these beasts.

They appear to have been violet-colored titanic armored and segmented worms. One end of the tunneler terminated in a large, toothed mouth, with four slit-like eyes set above the mouth and small vestigial limbs at the sides of the “head” to help it chew through the rocky earth. The creature’s tail was capped by a massive poisonous paralytic stinger. The Porphyrous Tunneler was often depicted as bursting out of the ground and arching itself in a distinctive pose when it was in an attack mode.
