normans

This is an old revision of the document!

Normans

Specially marked by cunning, despising their own inheritance in the hope of winning a greater, eager after both gain and dominion, given to imitation of all kinds, holding a certain mean between lavishness and greediness, that is, perhaps uniting, as they certainly did, these two seemingly opposite qualities. Their leaders are specially lavish through their desire of good report. They are, moreover, a race skillful in flattery, given to the study of eloquence, so that the very boys were orators, a race altogether unbridled unless held firmly down by the yoke of justice. They are enduring of toil, hunger, and cold whenever fortune laid it on them, given to hunting and hawking, delighting in the pleasure of horses, and of all the weapons and garb of war.

Normans can come from Normandy, England, Sicily/Southern Italy or the Crusader States of Antioch or Jerusalem.

Primary Language: French. Secondary Language: English.

Roll an extra die for your INT attribute, and drop the lowest ones until you only have three. Roll on the event table below for a second alternate die for your attribute rolls.

Roll Event Attribute
1You are the offspring of a haughty and noble trader dealing with exotic and forbidden wares.INT
2Born into one of the elite mercenary companies, you have tired of Normandy's constant warfare and have traveled to find adventure across the sea.STR
3Your mother was a famous sorceress and courtesan. Your childhood was dominated by the turmoil that the constant stream of Sorcerers duels with rivals and lovers caused.INT
4You were a thrall to a noble family, and you became well used to their capricious whims and cruel behavior.WIS
5You helped to tend to those ill with the plague, and did everything in your power to keep your patients alive.WIS
6You served as a servant at the Monastery of Tribulation. What hardships you’ve endured and horrors you have witnessed as a result.CON
7You grew up without an immediate family in the great mass of citizens of Rouen, in a drugged haze, full of wonder, spectacle and violence. You are one of the ‘pretty’ ones who charmed the masked nobles and survived as a result.CHA
8You are one of the fisher people of coast. Compared to the city dwellers, you have a simple life of singing folk songs, eating and drinking heartily and occasionally running from the monsters that live in dark caves of the coast.DEX

This is great for background I like it. Why not give a flat +1 or +2 instead of extra die. Since you can swap dice, an extra die in one thing turns out to be an extra die in anything, foiling the background effect. Roll background after stats are set
