Newly crowned after his effete father's unexpected death from illness, young Ronstudd mounts the Pearl Throne of Port Sinxth with the energy of his paternal grandfather, the adventurer, conqueror, and nobleman Donstudd. Donstudd's efforts were essential in helping the House of Gothfrey maintain control of the High Kingdom of Kumbrith, by helping the mages of Starkpool defend against chaos and supporting the knights of the Holy Brotherhood as they moved to the Stakpool reach.
