+The Multon Belt is a failed attempt by [[powercorp|POWERCORP]] to establish a Power-Cube mining and manufacturing center.   It had reached Colony Status with nearly 2 million people, when, about 45 years ago, the main asteroid manufacturing asteroid "Wheaton" exploded catastrophically.   When a second, smaller asteroid settlement exploded within the year, the corporation abandoned the colonization project as too costly and dangerous.
+The current outpost is a joint Powercorp-Parallax Union University research facility attempting to determine the nature of the system's danger.   Execustar patrol ships, hired by the outpost, attempt to keep everyone out of the system "for their own protection".
