Space Patrol

The campaign begins in the year 2437 AD, over a century after a galactic A.I. Apocalypse overthrew the Pan Galactic Union and nearly led to the extinction of all intelligent life in the galactic region. A revived Earth government called the New Earth League has created the Space Patrol to seek outside of the League's borders to find, help and protect distant human colonies. The players take the parts of the crew of the LSS Farragut, a Space Patrol Exploration Frigate, that has been assigned to the Maciste Sector in the Hercules Cluster to perform the Patrol's Mission there.

2065 AD: Beginning of the Historical Hiatus for Earthlings, when records on non-digital media completely stopped being kept. Events after this date can only be approximately deduced or guessed at by later generations. Dates in the Hiatus are reconstructions and are marked with the prefix c.(meaning “circa” or “about”)

2078 AD: When the entire contents of the American Library of Congress, National Archives and Patent Office were completely digitalized, sometimes rendered into holograms, the old paper documents were protected against decomposition and placed in a huge underground bunker in the Rocky Mountains. The vaults were securely sealed, the entrances buried and the complex more or less forgotten about.

c. 2113 AD: Scientists at Mars University created the first warp drive.

c. 2137 AD: Earth explorers encounter outposts of the Pan Galactic Union and Earth establishes diplomatic contact.

c.2181 AD: Earth Becomes a full member of the Pan Galactic Union.

c.2200 AD: a period of rapid human colonization of unclaimed planets in Earth’s galactic region begins.

c.2275 AD: a malevolent A.I. known as “Omni-Mind” was created by an alien species.

c.2283 AD: Omni-Mind begins genocidal campaign against all living beings in the Pan Galactic Union. Human colonies suffer along with the rest.

c.2303 AD: after twenty years of devastating galactic war, the Pan Galactic Union releases a sentient computer virus known as Avenger-3 to destroy Omni-Mind. It was quickly successful, but succeeded too well. Every single computer and digital storage device in the galaxy was eventually destroyed along with Omni-Mind and Avenger-3 and untold trillions of sentient lifeforms. Hence, also, the Historical Hiatus was created, wiping out all records for most species from the beginning of time till this date. This is the final event in the A.I. Apocalypse

2356 AD: The old American record vaults were discovered on Earth, the information contained gives Earth a huge step up in reconstruction of civilization. The Historical Hiatus on Earth therefore lasts from 2065-2356 AD, whereas most species see their Hiatus last from the beginning of time until somewhere in the 24th century.

2376 AD: after twenty years of research, reconstruction and renewal. The Earth creates The New Earth League in order to reach out to lost human colonies and to protect human civilization. The founders swore not to let humanity’s fate be held in the hands of others, having learned the lesson from the failure of the Pan Galactic Union.
