Space Patrol

The galaxy was in ruins and all digital information destroyed by the AI apocalypse. After taking advantage of the hard copy records discovered in the old Library of Congress archive vaults, the Earth government rapidly poured all resources and efforts into a grand recovery scheme to reestablish a space-faring civilization. Having recontacted a dozen or so nearby colonies, Earth and these colonies founded The New Earth League in 2376 as a military alliance and engine for exploration.

There were several guiding principles behind the NEL. First, because of the horrific effects of Omni-Mind, the NEL declared eternal, merciless war on A.I. in all forms. Second, due to the failure of The Pan Galactic Union to protect humanity from the A.I. devastation, humanity would from now on only trust humanity for its own safety and security. Third, in order to balance liberty and security, the NEL adopted the doctrine the Worlds were free on their surface but absolutely united in space. An example of this is that each league world has its own army that defends the world itself and the NEL does not have a surfaced based army. Conversely, the NEL has the Space Fleet to combat enemy spacecraft, but no league world has one.

The NEL is funded by world contributions based on population and resource assessments. There is a League Legislative Assembly and an executive, led by the Space President.
