HISTORY OF THE BORDER ZONES OF POLYCHRONOPOLIS

The Border Zones has a very long history, divided into several Eras.

Sauric Era (20,000 years ago): the region was ruled by a reptilian civilization, devoted to Chaos. The people were known as the Saurics and are the direct ancestors of the Lizardo seen today, who are much more primitive and brutish than their forbearers. The inherent contradictions of being a Chaotic civilization eventually destroyed the society in a fit of blood-stained madness, civil war and foul sorcery.

Elven Era(15,000 years ago) After a long defensive war against mad Sauric/Lizardo bands and cults among the ruins of the Sauric Empire, the elf lords of the Great Myr Forest brought the entire region under their control and founded a kingdom to rule over it. They founded the City of Rakazor on the site where Polychronopolis now stands to be their capital. However, the sundering of the High Elves into three kindreds broke the power of the kingdom.

Chaos Era(5000 years ago) The Silver Elves used whatever allies they could, from dragons to orcs, to get power over the city and kingdom, but only succeeded in unleashing Chaos, fragmentation and suffering. Rakazor becomes known as Grag the Wicked and is power is divided into the hands of 12 great houses and the city shrinks in wealth and glory. The zones beyond the city begin to be extensively settled by various mortal species who had no part in the earlier struggles (humans, halflings, gnomes, kobolds, goblins etc).

Modern Era(1200 years ago) While not gaining much in territory, Grag the Wicked slowly begins to increase in wealth and popultion. 250 years ago, the city and the farmlands to the north were conquered by a barbarian human warlord named Polychron, a vassal of the king of the Kotharians, who were rolling over most the the small city-states and tribes of the central continent. Polychron renamed the Grag the Wicked as Polychronopolis after himself, became the first Podesta of the city, but left most of the ruling structures in place.
