The English kingdom of Nessex is the largest state in the New World, founded by King Harold Godwinson in 1066, after his defeat and overthrow by the Normans. Over the last 64 years, Nessex has seen steady immigration from England of Anglo-Saxons weary of the Norman yoke.

The English, especially the ones in the New World, are naturally hostile to the Normans who have overthrown their traditional institutions and sense of self-rulership. Normans, therefore, are forbidden to hold positions of trust or honor in the government of Nessex.
There is also sense of hostility between the English and the Danes, Welsh and Scots as a result of centuries of conflict. The English of Nessex and the Danes of Thorsland in the New World have become particularly hostile to one another.
