Byzantines

The inhabitants of the Byzantine Empire (properly the Eastern Roman Empire) are the living embodiment of the Roman past coupled with Christian Orthodoxy. The inhabitants refer to themselves as Romans, using Roman Law and structures, but speak the Greek language. Pressed by the Turks, Italo-Normans and the Venetians, the empire has spies and diplomats at every court in the world. They are among the most sophisticated and literate folk in the world, trained toward subtlety and guile.

Franks and Normans consider the Byzantines to be treacherous backstabbers of the worst kind. Italians consider them to be stuck up arrogant upstarts.

The affable Byzantine adventurers start with a +2 bonus to their CHA attribute.

Primary Language: Greek. Secondary Language: English

Nobody calls them Byzantines, that's a modern invention. Byzantines, Turks, Arabs and Moors all call them “Romans”, and the Franks and other Westerners all call them “Greeks”.
