 Bishop Osmund is the bastard son of King Harold II (making him the cousin of the current king).  He was hustled off to a monastery school soon after his birth to court maid.   Because of his royal connection, Osmund rose rapidly in the church hierarchy, finding himself Bishop of Jorvik at a young age.  He is a cruel braggart who enjoys extracting meaningless, humiliating payment for any service or favor he performs.   He does not get along with the Earl at all.
+While the bishop has the general obedience of all the clergy, his principal loyal toadies are Archdeacon Festus (in charge of sophisticated matters) and Deacon Fang (for the dirty work).  Herman Greatheart is a German knight who commands the troops of the bishop and serves as his service knight for the yearly service owed by the church land.
