+The name was originally the 2 Geese Tavern, but in an old version of the sign, the second goose was so badly painted that no one knew what it was supposed to be.   As a result, every traveler who entered the place said "What's that second animal on the sign?" and the innkeeper said "It's a goose and also a goose," hence the enduring name of the place.
