=====Space Bucks===== The Space Buck is the coin issued by the [[nel|The New Earth League]] as the legal tender for government payments and taxes. While league worlds often have smaller denominations in silver for petty transactions, all major puchases in league space are priced in Space Bucks. There is no paper money in use in the NEL, but individual banks do issue bank drafts, letters of credit and traveler's checks redeemable for Space Bucks. Each Space Buck is a coin composed of exactly 10 grams of gold (1/100th of a kilogram or around 1/45th of a pound). The coin is stamped with serial number and sealed in a tough, transparent coating. Space Bucks have such a wide reputation for quality and reliability that they are frequently used outside league space, even in places where the location and nature of the NEL itself are unknown. Space Bucks were named in honor of their creator, Space President Theodore Buck. As the second of the elected Space Presidents, Buck put the NEL on firm financial footing, creating a uniform gold currency in 2382 AD. At first the coin was called The League Uniform Monetary Unit but was renamed The Space Buck officially in 2391 after Buck's death. For approximate value, think of a Space Buck as being equal to $1000 modern dollars, and the median yearly income as being the DI level of the planet times 10. Most player characters will likely have 2-3 space bucks in cash on their missions, and there is a ship's treasury with a store of space bucks for expenses. Typically, a group of PC's on leave will change a space buck for local silver for spending money.
