This fortress is the headquarters for all the [[way_stations|way stations]] along the caravan road.  It is a large castle with outer curtain walls, and space for a large number of people within.   There are always 2 companies (about 75 men each) of crossbowmen on post, and a single company of medium cavalry. 

The Warden of the Road, who commands all the way-stations, their troops and repair crews has residence here as well.  The current Warden is Franklin Chesterfield, a disgraced 2nd cousin of the king.  He is driven to succeed because failure would mean the permanent exile from the capital.
