Any character may seek to become an Initiate of any one (and no more than one at a time) of the Gods worshipped in the Thranconia region. Doing so during character generation is automatic for anyone who wants it, and mandatory for clerics. If you wait to become an initiate until play has begun, you must find a temple of the particular god and request initiation from the priests. This may or may not involve some service or probationary period, as the Judge decides.

Once a character becomes an initiate, you should enter the god's name on your character sheet and the following benefits are received:

• You gain +1 to one ability score listed in the god's description.
• You can purchase potions and spells at the “own temple” rate at your god's temples.
• You have greater chance of help when praying at your god's TEMPLES AND SHRINES

However, there is a price for these benefits.

• Each time you disobey a command from your god's clerics, your current experience point total drops by 5%.
• If you are penalized a third time in this way, you are cast out, losing your ability score boost and all access to temple services.
