Background:

Newt grew up an orphan after his Papa was found dead in the forest crushed by a tree. He's never forgiven all plants for his Papa's death. Newt grew up in the shadow of the Gunderson manor in The Grand Duchy of Geoff. He took to Kurt early in both of their careers and they have been best friends ever since.

Newt considers himself to be quite the gourmet. He has a sophisticated palate, and is constantly searching for new and unique culinary experiences.

Early in their friendship, Newt lied about his skills to Kurt in order to win his trust. Consequently, rather than ever admit that he lied Newt has just lied about things like being able to read many languages to keep up the charade. Becoming a bard may have been spurred by the quest to make up for these shortcomings.
